What worked for me to end my symptoms

I’d like to prefix these comments by saying that I know Irritable Bowel Syndrome may be caused by a variety of different factors and that treatments that work for one person, may not work for another. Also, my analysis of what works for me and why is what I have deduced from the effects and results of various treatments and events that occurred during the period I was afflicted with this disease. Since I am an “n” of one and the controls on my experience are limited, my description of what I think is going on may be entirely wrong; however, even if that is the case what I have done to ameliorate my symptoms worked for me. So it stands to reason that it may work for some other individuals afflicted with this condition. Finally, before trying any of this you should discuss it with your doctor. If he/she is agreeable, it might be worth a try.

Swollen Stomach with fecal body odor

My condition started about five years ago. My stomach had swollen up and it was very painful, but my torso had a very warm temperature without and increase in temperature taken with a thermometer. With this I had a terrible body odor. I had a peptic ulcer some years before. Endoscopy revealed chronic gastritis with peptic ulcer disease. The doctor gave me Nexium. I was also treated for H. pylori.

For five years I suffered. What had happened was yeast had entered through the ulceration and had thrived undetected. After treatment with fluconazole this condition was remedied.

Hope this helps someone.

Is it IBS or UC? Doesn't matter as long as I'm healing

Hi all,

I thought I'd share my story of the downhill track to where I was 6 months ago, and the healing I've done since then. I was diagnosed with UC, although this never made sense to me as medically the tests were negative and the doctor just said it's because the disease is in it's infancy.

Firstly, I was always sick with tonsillitis as a young child, and had tonsils out at 12 years old.
course of horrible tetra-cyclines which burned my gut and didn't do me any favours for acne- 22 years old. I had several severe cases of food poisoning ages 20-25
started to develop allergic reactions approx age 21 including petikia from beans (which I ate a LOT of during Uni). I also had the development of hay fever and extreme itching ages 20-25.

Then I traveled to Cambodia/Vietnam for 3 weeks at age 24 and got sick- diarrhea, weakness, sweating for 1 week and following this developed pains, urgency in lower bowels after coffee/juice and bad D each day at work.

IBS Relief - A possible solution

I am a 62 year old, happily married man, with a good career, a nice family, reasonably healthy for my age, and fairly well balanced emotionally. But since my 20's I have suffered from stomach and digestive problems (including at one stage development of a stomach ulcer), which were eventually diagnosed as IBS. I developed the classic symptoms of reflux, bloating, stomach aches, heart burn, intestinal cramps, and need for constant visits to the toilet. All very debilitating and at times very unpleasant in the effects.

Like most people with this rather vague condition (which noone really seems to know the cause of) I have lived for years on combinations of gaviscon (and other antacid products), Omeprazole (and other gatro resistant capsules), mebeverine, and buscopan (for intestinal cramp)
I even had an operation to prevent reflux (which stemmed principally from a hiatus hernia problem and high stomach acid levels).

A procedure to treat delayed gastric emptying associated with IBS

Abstract -- delayed gastric emptying is called gastroparesis (associated with Irritable Bowel Syndrome -constipation). The following procedure was developed to produce gastric emptying. Drinking coffee is a pre-requisite for the anti-gastro paretic effects of the procedure. The procedure, in a nutshell, is this: for one hour after taking coffee and rocking on one’s side, gastric emptying of coffee is induced (and palpable). The above steps are necessary for the cervical traction device (TD) to function. During application of TD, one lies on one’s side while performing neck pulls. The following analysis of the inputs of the procedure uses known research about how the steps of the procedure work.

Hi all I am new to the site and have read alot of good information. One thing seems clear no one has found a true blue method of control..Let me tell you al little about myself and my journey. I started having frequent and urgent watery bowel movements about 4 years ago. It seemed that anything I ate went right through me. After about a year of seeing my doctor I was finally sent to have my Gall Bladder checked for disease. I was told after the test my gall bladder was not functioning and I had it removed. My life returned to normal for a period of time. As of last October I began having the same issues only this time it was happening for no apparent reason. It did not matter what I ate or did. I saw my Family doctor who diagnosed me with IBS. He recommended taking Immodium and increase my fiber intake. He also put me on Librax. Well that induced constpation which caused hemmoroids which I had never ever had. I stopped taking Immodium and just began dealing with it.

Found help at the health food store

For years I have suffered from IBS. I have a long family history of bowel disorders and take this very seriously. I have made numerous trips to my doctor(s) who has offered varying treatments - mostly involving taking copius amounts of medication or even one who suggested I seek the advice of a mental health professional. I am a gluten-free vegan, partly from a moral stance and partly in an attempt to ease the pain. I think doctors think I am nuts for the way I choose to eat!

I gave up on attaining the advice of 'medical professionals' and started researching relief on my own.

I have recently been experiencing a bout of exaggerated symptoms. It seems that no matter what I eat (or don't eat) I cannot escape the discomfort. I made a trip to my local health food store in the hopes that I might find an alternative treatment - and I did!

IBS Will Not Rule My Life

I have had IBS for four years now and since I have no expectations of it going away I have only just begun my journey. Initially I feared for the worst such as cancer. However when I found out that I had IBS I cried because the first thing I read was that there was no treatment for it. Seriously?!? This is the 21st century I thought we had the quick fix to everything? Clearly we did not, so I set out to fix it myself. The doctors, including the GI doctor where no help at all. I found my help online from Heather's Help for IBS.

23/f IBS-D under control - finally!

This is modified from a comment i made on an IBS topic, but i wanted to post it as a topic because i'm proud that i'm finally done with my IBS nightmare (well, kind of!)

i'm 23/F and i have horrible IBS-D and i've had anxiety problems since i was seven years old (awful, right?) i've cut all of the college foods from my diet (no high sodium frozen dinners, no ramen, no donuts, no fast food everrrr -- not even grilled options, no salads, no cookies/cakes/pies -- really, i can have a bite or two, but i wouldn't dare finish a piece of cake in one sitting!) and i only get sick about once a week now (usually not even that often!!) and i don't feel restricted by my diet at all! cooking meals at home has saved me sooo much grief because i can choose to bake and steam my favorites instead of buying them already grilled and sauteed in butter. minus the junk food, i'm eating the same meals as before, just prepared a little bit differently. =)

You can cure this

I had suffered from this for a while...a while without knowing what this was because there was no name for it...yes, I am THAT old!!! This used to be called colitis and now they created new names IBS A C and D for the same old problem.

I really have never been much of a fan for doctors as I dont think that pill taking heals you, but, on the other hand in an emergency, I love doctors. With that said, I started to explore all the avenues of why am I having this problem and why does almost everyone else have it?? What is the link?? and the only link I can come up with is food.....unless of course we all are related and have the same genes???Ya right!!!!

Educate yourself outside of the box, learn how your body works, could this be a simple biological problem that could be resolved in a very simple manner?? With myself and my friends cases, the answer is yes.

Our IBS is gone and we eat normally so keep on educating yourself with this.
